Stillking films, a major Czech film company has its eyes set on producing its own English-language films via a script development arm set up earlier this year.

With headquarters in the former engine room of Prague's Barrandov Studios the company is among several service firms that drive the local film, production industry. Recent feature credits include From Hell (with Johnny Depp), The Bourne Identity (with Matt Damon) and Black Sheep (with Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock), all of which I were shot in Prague.

A small team headed by David Minkowski and Thierry Morel is on the lookout for new screenwriting talent, says founder Matthew Stillman. "They're sourcing different material from a wide variety of places, and lot of it local," says Stillman.

"Now we're prioritizing a few treatments and ideas, which we'll then work on as co-productions," he adds.Asked if he had any particular types of movies in mind, Stillman replied that he "would prefer if it can be shot in the Czech Republic," but added the films would definitely shoot in English.

Although major studio shoots have given the firm more publicity, much of Stillking's work comes from production of commercials. Stillman says the firm recently wrapped a Pepsi commercial directed by Michael Bay and an Orange mobile phone ad directed by Oliver Stone, the latter of which included some post-production work done in Prague.

Stillking also co-produced the Czech hit Return of the ldiot (1999), directed by Saša Gedeon..
